Antimicrobial foam dressing for acute and chronic wounds with signs of infection

Mepilex Ag is a foam dressing for medium exuding chronic or acute wounds like venous leg ulcers or burns, where an antimicrobial action is indicated.  According to a recent international experts consensus, antimicrobial action is indicated to help reduce bioburden in infected wounds and to act as an antimicrobial barrier in wounds at high risk of infection or re-infection1. Infected wounds are painful wounds that need the best of treatment. Mepilex Ag is a dressing with Safetac® technology, and therefore proven to minimize pain and skin damage at dressing changes2,3. Mepilex Ag is clinically proven to heal burns faster and with less pain and cost compared to silver sulfadiazine4.

Mepilex Ag is designed for the management of low to moderately exuding wounds that show signs of infection. Mepilex Ag can be used under compression bandaging.

Mepilex Ag is a soft and highly conformable anti-microbial foam dressing that absorbs exudate and maintains a moist wound environment. The Safetac layer seals the wound edges, preventing the exudate from leaking onto the surrounding skin, thus minimizing the risk for maceration. The Safetac layer ensures that the dressing can be changed without damaging the wound or surrounding skin or exposing the patient to additional pain.

Mepilex Ag inactivates wound related pathogens within 30 minutes with sustained effect up to 7 days5,6,7,8. By reducing the number of microorganisms, Mepilex Ag may also reduce odour11

Use Mepilex Ag:

  • When an antimicrobial action is indicated: to reduce bioburden in infected wounds
  • When an antimicrobial action is indicated: to act as an antimicrobial barrier in wounds at high risk of infection or re-infection1
  • To obtain a rapid (after 30 minutes) and sustained (for 7 days) effective antimicrobial effect7,8
  • To combine antimicrobial action to a less painful and less stressful care for your patients1,12

Antimicrobial Foam Dressing with Safetac Technology

Mepilex® Ag combines the unique features of Safetac technology with the bacteria reducing power of silver. Mepilex Ag goes to work quickly, inactivating wound pathogens within 30 minutes and for up to 7 days. At dressing removal, Mepilex Ag does not stick to the wound or strip surrounding skin, minimizing patient pain and wound trauma.

Minimizing trauma and pain

Mepilex Ag hurts less by:

  • not adhering to the moist wound bed
  • eliminating skin stripping
  • sealing the wound margins to
  • prevent maceration

Reducing bacterial burden

Mepilex Ag in action:

  • inactivates wound pathogens within 30 minutes
  • inactivates wound pathogens up to 7 days
  • inactivates a broad range of pathogens, including MRSA

INDICATIONS FOR USE:

Mepilex® Ag is designed for the management of a wide range of wounds including leg ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, pressure ulcers and partial thickness burns. Mepilex® Ag will effectively manage most exudate levels and can be used in conjunction with compression therapy.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE:

  1. Gently cleanse the wound; dry surrounding skin. Mepilex® Ag will not adhere to a moist surface.
  2. Apply Mepilex® Ag directly onto the wound allowing the dressing to overlap onto the surrounding skin by at least 2 cm.
  3. Remove the release film and lay adherent side to the wound. Do not stretch. For lower limb applications position Mepilex® Ag slightly off centre so more of the dressing rests below the wound than above.
  4. Secure Mepilex® Ag in place with Mepitac®, Mefix® or other fixation device.

Mepilix Ag Application Guidelines

CONTRAINDICATIONS:

  • Do not use for patients with a known sensitivity to silver.
  • Do not use on patients undergoing radiation therapy
  • Do no use on patients undergoing MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging).
  • Do not use in conjunction with oxidizing agents such as hypochlorite solutions or hydrogen peroxide.

PRECAUTIONS:

  • Mepilex® Ag should be used under the supervision of a qualified health care professional.
  • In the event of clinical infection Mepilex® Ag does not replace the need for systemic therapy or other adequate infection treatment.
  • The interaction of Mepilex® Ag with other topical treatments has not been demonstrated.
  • Other than saline solution or water, the interaction of cleansing agents in combination with Mepilex® Ag has not been demonstrated.
  • Mepilex® Ag may cause transient discoloration of the wound bed and surrounding skin.
